Currencies & exchange rates

Understand the Accounting module’s currency registry and dated rate history.

Enable Accounting

Accounting is a premium module with a separate add-on price. Enable it in Modules, then open Accounting currencies. The company base reporting currency is displayed above the forms.

Add a transaction currency

  1. Enter a three-letter currency code and currency name.
  2. Set an optional symbol and the number of decimal places.
  3. Choose Add currency. Currency codes must be unique within the company.

Record a dated exchange rate

  1. Select different From and To currencies.
  2. Enter a positive rate. The meaning is: one unit of From equals the entered number of To units.
  3. Choose the effective date and provide a source or reference.
  4. Save the rate and check the pair, effective date, source, and recording user in the history.

Updates and limits

Saving the same pair and effective date updates that rate record. Administrative activity records the change. Rates are entered manually; automatic market feeds, transaction posting, journals, financial statements, and exchange gains/losses are planned. Public demo values are invented examples and must not be used as actual exchange rates.
